A Heartfelt Farewell to Toyco: A Pillar of Auckland's Toy Community

At The Toy Box, we want to take a moment to honor and bid a fond farewell to Toyco, a beloved Auckland toy store that has brought joy to countless families over the decades. Toyco wasn't just another name in the industry; it was a beacon that guided us and many others in the world of toys. Their journey from humble beginnings to becoming New Zealand's largest independently owned and operated toy store is nothing short of inspirational.

An Inspiring Journey

Toyco started as a small store in the bustling St Lukes shopping center and grew into a cherished destination for toy enthusiasts and collectors alike. Their passion for bringing happiness to customers was evident in their vast array of toys and games. Notably, their impressive LEGO collection featured stunning models crafted by renowned LEGO artist Ryan 'The Brickman' McNaught, capturing the imagination of both young and old.

Overcoming Challenges with Grace

Like all great stories, Toyco's journey wasn't without its challenges. A surge in popularity three years ago tested their operational capacities. Chris Smith, Toyco's Operations Manager, reminisced about how they couldn't fit enough staff in the back of the shop to handle all the orders. Yet, with determination and innovative solutions, they streamlined their packaging and shipping processes, ensuring that joy reached their customers without delay.

Adapting in Uncertain Times

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought unprecedented challenges. Toyco prioritized the health and well-being of their 35 dedicated staff members, making the difficult decision to keep their physical store closed during uncertain times. They focused on online orders and click-and-collect services, demonstrating a values-driven approach that put people first—a philosophy we deeply admire at The Toy Box.

A Bittersweet Goodbye

Not long ago Toyco made the decision to close both their online and physical stores. While the specific reasons for their closure remain private, there's no doubt about the lasting impact Toyco has had on our community. They didn't just sell toys; they created memories, sparked imaginations, and brought "serious fun" into the lives of many.

Honoring a Legacy

As we say goodbye to Toyco, we at The Toy Box are reminded of why we entered the world of toys—to bring joy, inspire creativity, and make a positive impact on our community. Toyco's legacy will continue to inspire us as we strive to uphold the high standards and passionate spirit they embodied.

From all of us at The Toy Box, thank you, Toyco, for the decades of dedication and happiness you've provided. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.
